ESI Dashboard (© Ciesin/Yale/WEF): Contents |
A all panel view, original ESI data
The Dashboard produces slightly different rankings, due its aggregation methodology. Here, the original ESI values are presented for comparison.
B all panel view II
Instead of single countries, the Dashboard can also display group scores. Here, all available country groups are displayed "embedded" in the global context. The 29 included OECD countries score very well, while Africa and the Least Developed Countries are at the bottom.
C two-panel view
The fact that in the 2001 ESI Belgium scored last in the OECD, while the U.S. were close to the top, caused a considerable media echo in Belgium, and reactions in the Federal Government. Here is the situation for the ESI 2002.
D analysis view
In analysis view, the distribution of an indicator can be shown, here for the OECD countries embedded in the global context.
E scatterplot
Linkages between indicators and indices can be portrayed with this scatterplot between 'Environmental Systems' and 'Environmental Sustainability Index'.
F map view
Sometimes a map is the fastest means of communication...
G analysis view
In this view, a large window allows detailed analysis of the set. The view is "EU exclusive", i.e. only EU countries are presented and included in the valuation. By simply pressing F12, the Dashboard user can switch between "embedded" and "exclusive" view.

M ESI
The overall ESI in Dashboard format but with adapted weights to make it fit the original ranking. Systems & stresses need to be increased to obtain the original rankings, while Vulnerability must be kept lower. The results are almost identical - Belgium scores a few ranks worse in the original ESI, Mexico slightly better (the white points refer to the Dashboard ranking)
