Millennium Development Goals: Contents

A   all panel view
Four themes characterizing a country group's overall performance related to the Millennium Goals. The Least Developed Countries are clearly "in the red zone"; their best score is a "pink" for "Environment and Global issues" - which is the weakest indicator for the OECD countries.

B   all panel view, details
Each of the four clusters can be disaggregated into its components. For the DC's, women in parliament, computers and income are the most striking negative indicators. But low income means also low CO2 emissions...

C   two-panel view
Here, two large panels present two theme indices for one country. Only in this view, the full-length indicator names can be shown. Central African Republic achieves "average" for the index "Env. & Global".

D   analysis view
In this view, two small country dials are complemented with a larger window showing the distribution of the indicator "Health". Africa achieves 135 points out of 1000, which is considered "serious" (rank 15 among 16 countries). For comparison see OECD, rank 3 at 935 points.

E   scatterplot
There is a strong correlation between Health and "Population Living below Poverty Line (1PPP$/day)", as this scatterplot shows. Here, values of countries have been aggregated to 'group' valuations (on a one-country-one-vote basis, i.e. not weighted by population).

F   map view
A typical map view for Africa confirms expectations: Sub-Saharan Africa has more problems than the North and South. Somalia is worst...

G   map view 2
Health in Mozambique and Rwanda - what are the main differences?

H   analysis view
In this view, two small country dials are complemented with a larger window showing the distribution of the indicator "Equity". Kenya achieves 591 points out of 1000, which is considered "fair" (rank 126 among 180 countries).

I   analysis view
Again, two small country dials are complemented with a larger window showing the distribution of the indicator "Foreign trade". Eritrea achieves 513 points out of 1000, which is considered "average" (rank 9 among 48 countries).

J   MDG and Equity
Surprising is the almost perfect correlation between the overall MDG index and the sub-index "Equity", here shown for the country group Least DC.

K   Trade
Is there a correlation between the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and Trade? Apparently, trade as such is no guarantee for development - the correlation is rather weak, although positive.
